Automotive and EV wiring harness sourcing checklist

Vehicle and new-energy harness enquiries need more than a wire list. The first review should show application, load, connector interface, protection method and project stage.

1. Vehicle or equipment application

Explain the platform and where the harness sits. A low-voltage accessory harness, battery-related assembly, charging-side cable or control harness should not be reviewed as the same request.

  • Vehicle, equipment or energy-storage application
  • Harness position and routing area
  • Low-voltage signal, power, charging or control use
  • Indoor cabin, under-hood, outdoor or exposed installation
  • Prototype, service part or production project

2. Connector and mating interface

Connector matching is often the longest part of the first review. Send part numbers when possible, or send clear photos and pin-count details when the connector is still being identified.

  • Connector part number or series
  • Mating-side part number or photos
  • Pin count and cavity layout
  • Lock, seal or secondary lock requirement
  • Terminal type and plating requirement if known

3. Wire, circuit and electrical load

A circuit table helps avoid guessing. If the drawing is not ready, list each circuit with wire size, color, load and end connection.

  • Circuit list or pinout table
  • Wire gauge or cross-section
  • Voltage and current by circuit
  • Color coding and labels
  • Shielding, grounding or twisted-pair requirement

4. Protection and installation conditions

Harness protection should follow the route and environment. Note what sections need tube, sleeve, tape, grommet or strain relief instead of adding the same protection everywhere.

  • Corrugated tube, braided sleeve, PVC tube or tape requirement
  • Heat, abrasion, moisture or vibration exposure
  • Grommet, clip, bracket or tie point
  • Bend radius or routing limit
  • Label, barcode or assembly mark requirement

5. Samples, validation and production plan

State what the first sample is meant to prove. A fit-check sample, electrical sample and production-validation sample may have different inspection needs.

  • Sample quantity and purpose
  • Continuity or electrical test expectation
  • Fit-check or installation review requirement
  • Pilot quantity and expected annual volume
  • Delivery destination and target schedule
