Custom wiring harness RFQ checklist for faster sourcing review
A custom wiring harness quote moves faster when the supplier or sourcing partner can see the application, interface, electrical requirements and production context at the same time.
1. Application and equipment context
Include the equipment type, operating environment and where the harness will be installed. A harness for an appliance, HVAC system, vehicle platform, energy equipment or industrial controller can require different routing, protection and connector decisions.

- Indoor, outdoor, high-temperature, vibration or moisture exposure
- Installation space and routing limits
- Moving or fixed assembly
- Target market or compliance requirements, if already known
2. Drawing, sample or reference photo
The best RFQ includes a drawing, but early projects often start with a sample or reference photo. If a formal drawing is not available, share clear photos from multiple angles and mark critical dimensions.
- 2D drawing, 3D file, sample photos or existing part number
- Overall harness length and branch lengths
- Connector positions
- Label, sleeve, tube, tape or protection requirements
- Tolerance expectations if already defined
3. Connector and terminal information
Connector uncertainty is one of the most common delays. If the exact connector model is not known, provide pitch, pin count, mating interface photos and the equipment side that it connects to.

- Male or female interface
- Terminal type
- Mating connector, PCB or equipment interface
- Waterproof or locking requirements
4. Wire and electrical requirements
Wire choice depends on current, voltage, temperature, flexibility and installation environment. If the exact wire type is not fixed, provide the application conditions and expected rating.
- Wire gauge or cross-section
- Rated voltage and current
- Insulation material, if known
- Color coding
- Shielding requirement
- Grounding or signal and power separation requirement
5. Quantity, sample stage and delivery destination
Sample and production quantities affect how the RFQ should be reviewed. A prototype request may prioritize matching and quick sample review, while repeat production requires more stable specifications and packaging details.
